What is an Aquaponic System ?

Aquaponics is a combination of aquaculture (growing fish and other aquatic animals), and hydroponics (growing plants without soil). The beneficial bacteria will be cultivated in the bio-media and convert the waste to become nutrients that the plants can uptake.

Objectives of Promotion

To promote the implementation of ‘Urban Farming and Community Garden’ in Cyberjaya 

Strategies

Creating awareness about modern urban farming through contribution and participation from targeted Multinational Companies in Cyberjaya.

  • Integration of urban farming with the local city ecosystem which includes:
  • Integration with local farmer market, grocery store and restaurant
  • Integration with local university on technology sharing
  • Integration with local community on education aspect

Desired Impact and Outcome of Project

SDG 2: Zero Hunger
Production of food by people living within city areas will help to eliminate hunger and shortage of access of food in city.

 SDG 4: Quality Education
Urban farming consists of knowledge that involves the application of science and technology. Implementation of Urban Farming in Cyberjaya will give access to students from university and schools to visit and learn about modern agriculture that applies the concept of Aquaponics, vertical farming and IoT technology.

 SDG 8: Good Jobs and Economic Growth
Yield from the urban farm is not only for self-consumption. The extra production can be sold to generate extra income for the urbanites.

The yield from the urban farm can be sold in local farmer market to generate extra income for the urban farmer as well as promoting local food production.

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
Urban farming does not only involve the growing and production of food, but also scaling up of the community for sustainable city. Through urban farming activities, the interaction of local communities will be strengthe
